Presentation:
This presentation reviews the need for enclosure systems and perimeter security that is addressed by the classic concrete wall. Modern methods allow for these products to be manufactured to meet the specific needs of various end users. Our presentation will show how these products differ from traditional poured in place systems and explore how they can be used on these challenging and ever-changing projects.
Today’s product choices in the construction industry are more diverse than ever. As we explore meeting the need for walls and fences for commercial, industrial and developer applications, concrete is often one of those products considered. Whether the need is a visual barrier, noise reduction, fire resistance, a non-conductive barrier, general security, or simply to address the aesthetic needs of the site, concrete walls and fences are a solid solution to these challenging needs. Traditional Block or Cast in Place options have always been the go-to solutions, but Modular Precast Concrete Slat wall solutions are proving to be a preferred option offering an economical solution that is easier to produce, easier to install, and easier to repair, all combining to bring exceptional value to the project site. Whether a strip mall looking to provide privacy for adjacent residential homes, or a quick service restaurant needing a simple dumpster enclosure, precast concrete is a proven solution for your typical project site needs. For demanding industrial and commercial applications, such as power utility providers or distribution centers, precast concrete walls are the solution that meets the multiple layers of need often present on these type of project sites. Flexibility, durability, and so many other performance criteria are among those needs these products accommodate. At the completion of this presentation, you will have another product solution to utilize in the design in the your projects.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the difference between Dry Cast and Wet Cast concrete products.
- Understand the various layers of security that precast wall address, including visual, sound, climb resistance, and potentially higher-level security needs like ballistics or vehicle crash resistance.
- Understand how these products affect site aesthetics and intrinsic way they affect how people behave around them when they are used for site perimeter demarcation and security.
- Explore some nationwide municipal codes that require these sorts of systems and how precast offers a viable and economical solution.
Learning Units will be provided: Yes (AIA/HSW)
