Presentation:
Construction Documents are more than a set of drawings—they’re a contract, a communication tool, and a risk management strategy. This course breaks down the fundamentals of the construction document and specification process in clear, practical terms. Architects will learn how documents are structured, how specs support drawings, and how early design decisions ripple through the documentation phase. Expect clarity, real-world context, and immediately applicable insights.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the role of construction documents as contractual, communicative, and risk-management tools within the project delivery process
- Identify and describe the standard organization of construction drawings and specifications, including how the two work together as a coordinated set
- Analyze how early design decisions influence downstream documentation, coordination, and risk during the construction document phase
- Apply practical strategies to improve clarity, coordination, and intent in construction documents using real-world examples and scenarios
Learning Units will be provided: Yes (AIA LU/HSW)
