Learning Objectives:
- Describe the functions of a wall and the air, water, vapor, and thermal control layers that are essential to sustainable, energy-efficient buildings without excessive moisture penetration
- Explain how fastener penetrations can cause damage and permit air and water leaks through control layers, resulting in diminished moisture management and energy efficiency of the building envelope
- Select fasteners and anchors capable of self-sealing to manage moisture, increase energy efficiency, and ensure sustainable thermal performance of the building envelope
- Discuss strategies to easily specify fasteners and anchors tested in complete wall assemblies, including cladding attachment solutions to ensure sustainable long-term building envelope performance.
Learning Units will be provided: Yes (AIA/HSW)
Speakers Bio:
With nearly 45 years of experience in the construction industry, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of building science and construction practices. My journey began in the late 70’s at a young age, working alongside my father, a co-owner of a prominent construction company in Cincinnati, OH. My early responsibilities included tasks such as scraping and painting scaffolding, cleaning mortar boards, and maintaining the shop. That was just the start.
Throughout my career, I have held various roles, including working for several distributors in the Cincinnati area and serving as the General Manager of a local roofing contractor. For over a decade, I have worked as a manufacturer representative, covering Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. My dedication to learning and understanding the intricacies of building science has been a constant theme in my professional life, enabling me to understand how different components fit together within the building enclosure.
I have had the privilege of working with and representing products across all six sides of a building. My commitment to continuous learning is reflected in the certifications I have earned from RESNET, WUFI, ACI, RCI, and SPFA. These qualifications highlight my love and dedication to advancing building science and construction practices.
